Project: New Brand Development
Tod personally named and designed the Palettes brand. Because the product line is based on specific color
combinations used in interior design, it was clear the name must convey the essence of the concept. A clean, modern type
solution represents the designer brand.
Tod brought Palettes to life by creating complex fragrances that aromatically interpret the six color palettes he
identified: neutral, pastel, primary, jewel, earth and gray tones. Working with a perfumist from the world's oldest
fragrance house, Tod blended the right scent combination to create intriguing fragrances and assigned them to
each of his color palettes. The collection consists of six candles and six room sprays.
Tod's vision for the packaging was clear and simple; sophisticated. Each of the six color palettes needed to be
displayed on the exterior as a graphic element presenting the colors he chose to represent each of the six
palettes and fragrances. The color blocks identify the appropriate fragrance for that interior color palette.
Smell The Colors.
A branded website was created to promote Palettes and tell
the story behind the designer and his vision for the line.
Brand Positioning & Relationships
Tod created Palettes as a premium brand and struck an exclusive partnership with luxury retailer
Frontgate to launch the line in their catalogs, stores and online.
Other brand alliances were formed including programs with American Express, Fashion Week,
Distinctive Assets for celebrity events & swag bags, etc. to further promote the brand. Tod was
also invited to have a guest spot on Sirius Radio to discuss Palettes.
The Palettes story was told by the use
of beautiful room photography that
corresponded with the six color-inspired
fragrances. A detailed description of the
fragrance composition enlivened the senses
